How to Become a Member of the YPT-DC Board

Terms of Office

Terms of office are one year, from January 1 to December 31.  There is no limit to the number of consecutive terms a Board Member may serve. Candidates may run for multiple positions. If a candidate wins more than one position then that person may choose which position they would prefer to serve in. Board members typically offer a time commitment of 5-10 hours per month including monthly Board meetings and events. Eligibility

To run for any YPT-DC Board of Director position or vote in the elections you must:

  • Already be or become a paid YPT-DC Member by October 1, 2020, 11:59 PM EST 

If you think you are already a Member but are unsure, you can check your membership status.  

Timeline for Voting Process

  • September 21, 2020 – Candidate statements are due by 11:59 PM EDT.

  • October 19, 2020 – Election ballots will be sent out by YPT International to eligible voting Members for all Chapter and International elections by 9:00 AM EDT. 

  • October 30, 2020 – Online elections close at 11:59 PM EDT. International and Chapter Board members and nominees will be notified of election results shortly thereafter.

  • January 1, 2021 - New Board term for all winning candidates begins


Description of YPT-DC Board Member Positions

Term limits for all YPT Board positions is one year. The term runs from January 1, 2021 to  December 31, 2021.

The following briefly describes each of the Board positions:

Chair
The Chair is responsible for day-to-day implementation of the policy and guidelines of the Board of Directors. The Chair shall preside over Chapter Board meetings, create and appoint members to Committees, and act as chief official representative of YPT-DC. The Chair shall have served at least one full-year term on the YPT-DC Board, or have equivalent experience serving on the Board of Directors of any other YPT chapter or the YPT International Board of Directors.
 
Deputy Chair
The Deputy shall help to coordinate activities involving multiple Officers and assist the Chair in his or her responsibilities. In the absence of the Chair, the Deputy Chair shall act in the official capacity of the Chair and perform all duties of that office. The Deputy Chair is also responsible for organizing the chapter annual report, managing the election process, and initiating cross-chapter activities.
 
Vice Chair for Administration
The Vice Chair for Administration shall keep full and accurate records of all business and proceedings at Chapter Board meetings. The Vice Chair for Administration shall prepare meeting minutes, manage membership, and keep accurate organization records. The Vice Chair will work with the Vice Chair of Finance to ensure that all local tax and business documents are updated on an annual basis.
 
Vice Chair for Finance
The Vice Chair for Finance shall be responsible for the collection of dues, and the safekeeping of funds, including reporting of receipts, expenditures, and balances at the request of the Chapter Board. The Vice Chair should have background in accounting, finance, or a general interest in nonprofit financial management.
 
Vice Chair for Programs
The Vice Chair for Programs is the “project manager” responsible for the planning and execution of all events and the development of a full year schedule of engaging events, while drawing upon other board members for event ideas and logistical support. Events range from tours to lectures to social opportunities. The Vice Chair should have experience or interest in event coordination or event/project management.
 
Vice Chair for Sponsorship
The Vice Chair for Sponsorship shall be responsible for coordination and management of the Board’s sponsorship program, as well as partnerships with other organizations. As such, the Vice Chair actively pursues sponsorship, maintains/updates the list of prospective and active sponsors, be knowledgeable the chapter’s sponsorship policies, act as the liaison between the Board and these sponsors, and report on updates at monthly board meetings.
 
Vice Chair for Communications
The Vice Chair for Communications shall run YPT-DC’s communications, including its website, newsletter, event registration, and social media presence. The Vice Chair should have a background or interest in website design and/or social media with strong written communication skills.
