Open Streets DC

Open Streets 12th Street NE

Location: Franklin Street NE to Michigan Avenue NE

Date: Sunday, June 4, 2023 from 9 am to 3 pm

Road Closure: 12th Street NE from 7 am to 5 pm

Open Streets is coming for the second time to 12th Street NE in the spring of 2023! The route was expanded from the 2022 event to allow for ONE mile of 12th Street NE to be closed to vehicles and allow people to safely walk, run, bike, and play. The route will feature hourly programmed classes and demonstrations, including yoga, dancing, and more! The event is free and suitable for all ages and abilities.

Open Streets is a global initiative that offers communities the opportunity to experience their streets in a whole new way. Open Streets events temporarily close roadways to vehicles to provide safe spaces for walking, biking, skating, and other social activities.

Open Streets events help users reimagine public space to prioritize people over cars, provide easy access to recreation and other health-oriented programming, and promote economic development by supporting local businesses.

**UPDATE** Beers with Peers + TranspoBingo

Join us on February 23rd as we team up with the #MBTPubRoll for a YPT Beers with Peers happy hour. Come along for the entire crawl or for a stop along the way! Follow along on Twitter with #MBTPubRoll and #TranspoBINGO and on IG @ypt_dc.

IMPORTANT NOTE: We have changed the second stop in the crawl to coincide with Greater Greater Washington's TranspoBINGO happy hour at metrobar!

"TranspoBINGO was first held in February of 2020, with the goal of getting more people – including elected officials, advocates, and residents around the Washington region – to change up their routines and commit to traveling via public and active transportation over the course of a week. The goal was for players to experience the strengths and weaknesses of our transportation networks and better advocate for improvements. Players were encouraged to fill out bingo cards and share their journeys on social media."

here, and download this year's TranspoBINGO card if you're interested in participating in this week long event.

Schedule:

  • 5:30-6:25pm | Red Bear (209 M St NE, Washington, DC 20002)

  • *UPDATE* 6:30-7:25pm | metrobar (640 Rhode Island Ave NE, Washington, DC 20002)
